Imagination Portal

Adams Street Library

The challenge was to design a piece of casework to receive the public at an existing, researched location.
The imagination portal concept plays to young readers and their love for books and make believe. The tree trunk serves as a welcoming, playful and interactive space for children as they approach the large desk to borrow and return books. The counter above the trunk is lower to meet the height of younger children so they can interact with library staff independently. Materials for this casework piece were carefully considered in order to represent whimsy, professionalism, functionality, and sustainability.
